Why become a member?


The Burlington Potters Guild is a vibrant group of artists that welcomes all levels of experience from complete beginner to professional. We have a fabulous pottery studio housed at the Art Gallery of Burlington, which is also home to 5 other guilds. Inspiration is never far away!

BPG is run by its members, with a volunteer Executive Committee that meets ten times per year, to help shape the direction of the Guild.


There are 2 membership levels available at the Burlington Potters’ Guild: Associate MemberShips and Full Studio Memberships

AssociaTe Membership entitles you to:

  1. Attend Speaker Night demonstrations, 7-8 times/year

  2. Borrowing privileges from the Guild’s library

  3. 5% off at Pottery Supply House

  4. The opportunity of participating in Guild Sales

  5. Social gatherings throughout the year (ie. 2 annual potlucks)

  6. Participation in Guild exhibitions

Full studio membership

Full membership includes the above Associate Membership perks as well as the following:

  1. The use of the pottery studio equipped with:

    • 12 electric wheels
    • large extruder

    • spray booth

    • slab roller

    • pug mill (with approval)

  2. The Potters’ studio is open to full studio members all day and evening every Tuesday, plus anytime when no AGB classes are taking place.

  3. The use of the Guild’s electric kiln, or 4 of the AGB kilns, a raku kiln and large gas kiln. ALL KILN USE REQUIRES TRAINING, along with other parameters that must be met before firing alone. There are extra fees to fire these kilns that are not included in the full membership feel

  4. There are frequent Communal Firings of the electric kilns (to cone 6) where all Full Studio Members can prepay for shelf space in a firing, depending on their need.

GUILD ACTIVITIES

• Eight monthly general meetings (3rd Tue. of every
month), with guest ceramic artists who demonstrate
their skills, and share their inspiration and techniques
• Two Guild raku firings and potluck dinner (June and
December)
• Two Sales opportunities per year: Arts Burlington Spring and Holiday Sales at the AGB
• Kiln training and workshops as well as group firings
• other exhibition opportunities

 

 

MEMBERSHIP FEES

Membership is from January to December annually.
Annual Fees:     
Associate member: $40     
No volunteering requirement except when participating in sales, or if you wish.

Full Studio Member $120

There is a limit of 50 Full Studio Memberships available each year. If we are at maximum, you have to option to be on our waitlist. You will need to complete an interview before being accepted as a full studio member.
Two hours of volunteer time are requested per month. A list of volunteer opportunities will be provided with your Welcome Package.
Full studio members will have taken at least 2 courses (8 - 10 weeks in duration) or has own home studio.
Studio orientation will be mandatory.
Electric, gas & raku kilns are available for full studio members to fire (with training and approval) at additional fees.

Payment can be made in the following ways:

  1. E-transfer to: bpgtreasurer1@gmail.com, AND submit your membership application as well. This is the preferred method of payment. Please indicate on your etranfer that this is a membership payment in the Message/comment section.

  2. Cheque made out to The Burlington Potters Guild and mailed/delivered to:

    1333 Lakeshore Road, Burlington, ON L7S 1A9
    AND submit your membership application as well.

  3. In person: drop by the studio on a Tuesday and bring your cash/cheque and AND submit your membership application as well.
